The Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Director of Bands Chad R. Nicholson. The Wind Symphony is under the direction of Associate Director of Bands Chad Shoopman. Sharing the podium with the Wind Ensemble will be master's conducting student Clifton Weston. Sharing the podium with the Wind Symphony will be master's conducting student Evan Gibson.
The University of Arizona Wind Symphony will perform a wide variety of classic and contemporary works for wind band on the first half of the concert. Works include, "The Sinfonians" by Clifton Williams, "Sòlas Ané" by Samuel Hazo, "Cajun Folk Songs" by Frank Ticheli, Elegy for a Young American by Ronald LoPresti, and "Metroplex: Three Postcards from Manhattan" by Robert Sheldon.
The University of Arizona Wind Ensemble continues to champion modern music through commissions, and this concert will feature a consortium premiere of a new large-scale symphony for wind band. Composer David Dzubay (Indiana University) has recently finished his Symphony No. 2, "Through a Glass, Darkly," and this marks the second performance of the piece since its completion in late September. Other works to be performed on the concert are Morton Lauridsen's "O Magnum Mysterium," "La Peri Fanfare," by Paul Dukas and Alberto Ginastera's "Danza Final."Audience:
